LECTURES

Kinetic Typography:

Motion typography is a form of “dynamic text art” that uses the movement of typefaces to tell stories, convey emotions, and enhance visual expression. It falls under the category of “temporal typography,” where text evolves over time.

Two major types:

1.Motion Typography

  • Fonts move relative to each other in two- or three-dimensional space.
  • This includes actions such as text or characters entering, exiting, zooming in, or zooming out.
  • The key focus is maintaining readability.

2.Fluid Typography

  • Characters can transform into non-textual elements, such as graphics or other words.
  • Emphasis is placed on the fluidity and transformation of structure and form.

Common Presentation Patterns:

  1. Create/Destroy:Fonts are generated by aggregating graphics or decomposed and dispersed.
  2. Enter/Exit:Text appears through effects like sliding in or fading in, guiding the reading sequence.
  3. Morphing:Altering the structure of characters, converting them into images or other text, enhances the metaphor.
  4. Inventive Metaphors:Characters bear realistic features, such as serifs transforming into “feet.”
  5. Arc/Path Motion:Text moves along straight lines or curved paths.
  6. Storytelling:Tell stories through typography, such as lyric videos or interactive websites.
  7. Signaling Motion:Small movements attract attention and guide the gaze.

Principles of Dynamic Type Design:

  1. Maintain Relativity:Relative motion relationships should be maintained between font elements.
  2. Optimize for Readability:Font size, spacing, and timing must ensure readability.
  3. Optimize Effect Duration:Animation duration should be just right, avoiding any sluggishness.
  4. Manage Emotion:Color, speed, and transitions influence audience emotions and should be used with care.
  5. Maintain Linearity:The order of letters and words should follow reading logic.
  6. Motion Sensitivity:Avoid excessive or overly rapid animations to prevent viewer discomfort.
  7. Optimize for Accessibility:Consider users with visual impairments, color vision differences, and other disabilities.
  8. Bandwidth Constraints:Animations should load quickly and should not waste viewers' time or network resources.
  9. Fallback States:If the animation fails to load, a static text version should be displayed.
